Before there was anything at all — no sun, no sea, no animals, no people — there was God. God was there in the beginning, and God decided to make a beautiful world.
First, God spoke, and light appeared! “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.
Then God made the sky, and He gathered the waters together so that dry land appeared. He made the oceans and the seas, and He covered the land with green grass, flowers, and trees with good fruit to eat.
Next, God put lights in the sky: the bright sun to shine by day, the moon and the twinkling stars by night. Then He filled the waters with fish and the sky with birds of every kind.
After that, God made all the animals — lions and lambs, elephants and tiny mice. Last of all, God made something very special: people! He made a man and a woman to love Him, to talk with Him, and to take care of His world.
When God looked at everything He had made, He saw that it was very good. And then God rested, because His work was finished. What a wonderful Maker we have!
