Joseph and the Coat of Many Colours

Read together in your Bible: Genesis 37; 39 – 45 (King James Version)

Joseph in his coat of many colours stands with his father Jacob among the sheep

Joseph was a young man with eleven brothers. His father Jacob loved him very much and gave him a beautiful coat of many colours. But Joseph's brothers were jealous, and they did something terrible: they sold Joseph to traders, who carried him far away to Egypt.

In Egypt, Joseph had to work as a servant, and he was even put in prison for something he did not do. That must have felt so unfair! But God was with Joseph the whole time, and Joseph kept trusting God and doing what was right.

Then something amazing happened. Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had dreams that no one could understand — and Joseph, with God's help, explained them! A great hunger was coming, and Joseph told Pharaoh how to save up food. Pharaoh was so pleased that he made Joseph the second most powerful man in all of Egypt!

When the hunger came, Joseph's brothers travelled to Egypt to buy food — and they bowed down before the great ruler, not knowing it was their own brother! Joseph forgave them. “So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.”

The brothers had meant to hurt Joseph, but God turned it all around to save many people. God can take even hard and sad things and bring good out of them.

Memory Verse — Hide It in Your Heart
“But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”
Genesis 50:20 · KJV

Say it together morning and night until you know it by heart — these are the very words of God.
