The Lennox Clip Library

John Lennox’s lectures, cut up piecemeal: twenty short, tight clips — 47 minutes in all, drawn from seven lectures totalling six and a half hours — each carrying one point at full strength, cut at his own sentence boundaries. Nothing reordered, nothing spliced.

The clips are the front door — the gist and the juice. But every lecture below also opens with a WATCH IN FULL entry, so the complete lecture is always one tap behind its clips, never buried. Each clip names its source lecture and its timestamps in the original, so any clip can be traced back to its place in the full talk; each opens with a title card naming the point, and closes with a full credit card and one King James anchor verse.

“Science Is the Only Way to Truth” Refutes Itself

The claim that science is the only way to truth is not itself a statement of science — if it were true, it would be false; and science cannot answer a child’s questions: Where do I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going?

Fine-Tuning — and the “God of the Gaps” Mistake

An Oxford atheist philosopher admits fine-tuning is the first place he would look if he were ever to become a Christian; Lennox then defines the God-of-the-gaps error — and why the God of the Bible is not it.

God Does Not Compete With Science — the Kettle

Why is the water boiling? Physics tells how; ‘I want a cup of tea’ tells why. Both explanations are true and they do not compete — God no more competes with science than Henry Ford competes with the laws of the internal combustion engine.

The Menu, the Mind, and the 3.5 Billion Letters of DNA

At an Oxford dinner, a biochemist concedes that the five letters ‘roast chicken’ on a menu cannot be explained by the physics and chemistry of the paper — meaning takes a mind. Then Lennox asks about the 3.5 billion letters he studies in DNA.

Hawking’s Universe From Nothing — a Triple Self-Contradiction

Hawking’s claim — because there is a law of gravity, the universe can create itself from nothing — collapses three ways: the ‘nothing’ turns out to be something, a thing cannot create itself, and a law of nature cannot explain the existence of the nature it describes. ‘Nonsense remains nonsense even when it’s talked by world-famous scientists.’

Hawking Declared Philosophy Dead — in a Philosophy Book

The Grand Design opens with the deepest questions of philosophy — then announces that philosophy is dead. Lennox: a book about philosophy and metaphysics that begins by declaring philosophy dead sets alarm bells ringing; as Einstein saw, the scientist who does this is simply a poor philosopher.

Why Mathematics Works

Einstein called the universe’s comprehensibility its only incomprehensible thing; Wigner called mathematics ‘unreasonably effective.’ Lennox’s verdict: it is only unreasonable if you start with atheism — his main reason for not being an atheist is that he can do science.

Would You Trust a Brain Made by Mindless Chance?

Lennox asks his colleagues what they do science with: a brain they believe is the end product of a mindless, unguided process — and whether they would trust a lab computer made the same way. Ultimate reality, he argues, is not mass-energy but Mind.

Augustine’s Warning — Don’t Make the Faith Look Foolish

Augustine warned that when Christians talk nonsense about the natural world, unbelievers who know better will laugh — and then refuse to believe the same books about the resurrection of the dead. Lennox: he will gladly face ridicule for the resurrection itself, but he will not go beyond what Scripture actually says on side questions.

What Does ‘Day’ Mean in Genesis 1?

The interpretations are many — 24-hour days, the day-age view, the framework view, days of revelation — and they were held across the centuries by men who died for the faith, long before Darwin. Lennox walks the main streams and is careful to claim no definitive solution.

Scripture Gives No Date for the Earth

Asked in Q&A about dinosaurs and a 10,000-year-old earth, Lennox answers: ‘I do not see any evidence in Scripture that gives us any date for the Earth.’ Say what the Bible says — never less, and never one word more — and never be ashamed to say ‘I don’t know.’

Singularities — Creation, the Resurrection, and Man

Scientists dislike singularities — places where the laws break down — yet accept one at the origin of the universe. If God acted directly there, and at the resurrection, there is no in-principle difficulty in His acting directly at the origin of life and of humanity. And ‘God made it’ is no gap-argument: writing in the sand points to a writer by its very nature.

Jesus Wept — God Is Not Distant From Your Grief

Mary, Martha, and Lazarus: Martha gets theology — ‘I am the resurrection and the life’ — and Mary gets tears. God has not isolated Himself from our suffering; a pandemic is a sum of personal tragedies, and Jesus enters them.

Clip 3m 34s · from “John Lennox: Where is God in a Coronavirus world?” at 5:29–8:51 in the original · anchor verse JOHN 11:35

Atheism Removes Hope — and Morality With It

The atheist answer to suffering removes the suffering not at all — but it removes all hope; and if at bottom there is no good and no evil, on what ground do we call a pandemic evil? Dostoevsky’s point: if there is no God, everything is permissible.

The Future / AI

WATCH IN FULL — “John Lennox on ‘2084: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity’”

Lanier Theological Library · 1h 14m · The complete lecture on YouTube ›

AI Is Not Intelligent — It Only Simulates

The word ‘artificial’ is there for a reason: AI simulates intelligence — it is neither intelligent nor conscious. In human beings God has coupled intelligence with consciousness, and no one even knows what consciousness is. The field’s own standard textbook admits that making machines conscious ‘is not one that we are equipped to take on.’

Clip 2m 22s · from “John Lennox on ‘2084: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity’” at 19:40–21:50 in the original · anchor verse GENESIS 2:7

Transhumanism’s Fatal Flaw — It Has No Cross

Transhumanism says humans become gods by trusting technology. Christianity is the exact opposite: God became human, and through trusting Him humans become children of God. The futuristic scenarios try to build utopia while bypassing the fundamental flaw in human beings — sin. ‘They have no cross. We have hope because there is a cross.’

Resurrection & the Gospel

A Miracle Would Not Break the Laws of Nature

The resurrection did not happen by natural processes, so it breaks no law of nature: God raised Him — power injected from outside the system, as a car’s designer may lift its cylinder head without breaking the laws of combustion. Nature’s laws describe what normally happens.

Clip 2m 32s · from “Evidence for the Resurrection with Professor John Lennox” at 10:40–13:00 in the original · anchor verse ACTS 2:24

Faith Is Trust Based on Evidence

Faith (fides) means trust — the trust a bank manager extends on evidence. New Testament faith is never believing where there is no evidence: ‘These are written, that ye might believe.’ Without evidence there would be no New Testament.

Easter — Supreme Fact of History, or a Gigantic Hoax

Sir Norman Anderson’s fork: if Christ is risen, it is the supreme fact of history; if not, Christianity is a fraud foisted on the world by liars. Paul saw it first — so could the disciples have invented the story and then died for it?

Clip 1m 47s · from “Evidence for the Resurrection with Professor John Lennox” at 16:00–17:35 in the original · anchor verse 1 CORINTHIANS 15:14

The Grave Cloths That Convinced John

Details no forger would invent: women as first witnesses in a culture that discounted their testimony — and John, like a detective, seeing the grave cloths still rolled as they had lain on the body. ‘He saw, and believed.’ Cumulative evidence, step by step.
