David and the Giant

Read together in your Bible: 1 Samuel 17 (King James Version)

David the shepherd boy with his staff and sling, standing among his sheep by the brook

The Israelites were at war with the Philistines, and the Philistines had a champion named Goliath. Goliath was a giant — taller than any man anyone had ever seen — and every day he shouted for someone to come and fight him. All the soldiers of Israel were afraid.

A young shepherd boy named David came to the camp bringing food for his brothers. David looked after sheep, and God had helped him fight off a lion and a bear that tried to snatch his lambs. When David heard the giant shouting against God and God's people, he was not afraid. "I will fight him," David said, "because the LORD will help me."

King Saul tried to give David his heavy armour, but it did not fit a shepherd boy. So David took his staff, his sling, and five smooth stones from the brook, and he ran out to meet the giant.

Goliath laughed at the boy. But David answered bravely: “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.”

David put one stone in his sling, swung it around, and let it fly! The stone struck the giant in the forehead, and Goliath fell face down to the ground. God had given the victory — not to the biggest soldier, but to a boy who trusted Him. Little is much when God is in it!

Memory Verse — Hide It in Your Heart
“And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give you into our hands.”
1 Samuel 17:47 · KJV

Say it together morning and night until you know it by heart — these are the very words of God.
