The Kings of Israel and Judah
Zechariah (of Israel)
Israel · 753 – 752 BC · 6 months · 2 Kings 15:8 – 12
His Story
Son of Jeroboam II, the fourth and last of Jehu’s line — the exact number God had promised Jehu would sit on the throne. With him, Israel’s stability ended; the next thirty years are a record of daggers.
His Sin — How He Displeased the LORD
He did evil as his fathers had done, departing not from the sins of Jeroboam — the same inscription on a six-month throne.
The Good He Did
Scripture records none.
The LORD’s verdict
“And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his fathers had done: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.”2 Kings 15:9 (KJV)
How His Reign Ended
Shallum conspired against him and struck him down before the people at Jabesh... at Ibleam, and reigned in his place — “This was the word of the LORD which he spake to Jehu” (2 Kings 15:12): the dynasty ended precisely where God said it would.
Lessons for Believers Today
- God’s promises are exact — four generations, neither three nor five. His threats deserve the same literal faith as His promises.
- A throne inherited without God is inherited without protection.
