The Story
Before there were any people, before there were any animals or trees or stars — before there was anything at all — there was God. God has always been alive, and God can do anything.
On the first day, God made the heaven and the earth. Everything was dark. Then God spoke, and He said, "Let there be light" — and there was light! God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.
On the second day, God made the big, wide sky above the earth. On the third day, God gathered the waters together so that dry land appeared. He called the dry land Earth, and the waters He called Seas. Then God made the green grass, the flowers, the plants, and the trees — apple trees, tall trees, and trees with every kind of fruit — to grow up out of the ground.
On the fourth day, God put lights in the sky: the bright sun to shine in the day, the moon to shine at night, and ever so many twinkling stars. On the fifth day, God filled the waters with fishes — great big whales and tiny silver fish — and He filled the sky with birds to fly and sing. On the sixth day, God made all the animals: cows and horses, lions and lambs, dogs and cats, and every creeping, crawling thing.
And then God made His very best creation of all — people! The Bible says, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." The first man was Adam, and God made him from the dust of the ground and breathed life into him. God looked at everything He had made — the light, the sky, the seas, the trees, the sun and stars, the fish and birds and animals, and Adam — and it made Him glad, because, as the Bible tells us, "it was very good".
And do you know something wonderful? God made you, too. Of all the people in the whole world, there is only one you, and God made you on purpose. The Bible says, "I am fearfully and wonderfully made".
