The Kings of Israel and Judah
Pekahiah
Israel · 742 – 740 BC · 2 years · 2 Kings 15:23 – 26
His Story
Menahem’s son, inheriting a vassal throne and his father’s religion. Two years pass in one short paragraph.
His Sin — How He Displeased the LORD
He walked in the sins of Jeroboam, as his father before him — the family business of idolatry, uninterrupted.
The Good He Did
Scripture records none.
The LORD’s verdict
“And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.”2 Kings 15:24 (KJV)
How His Reign Ended
His own captain, Pekah son of Remaliah, conspired with fifty Gileadites and murdered him in the royal palace at Samaria, together with his courtiers.
Lessons for Believers Today
- The son who copies his father’s sins should not be surprised to inherit his father’s instability.
- Palaces are poor fortresses for men who have left God.
