Shepherds visit Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus in the stable

In the little town of Nazareth lived a young woman named Mary. One day, an angel came to her with wonderful news: she would have a very special baby — the Son of God! Mary trusted God and said, "Be it unto me according to thy word."

Mary and Joseph had to travel to the town of Bethlehem. When they arrived, the town was crowded, and there was no room for them in the inn. So the baby was born in a stable, among the animals, and Mary laid Him in a manger — a box where animals eat their hay. His name was Jesus.

That night, shepherds were watching their sheep in the fields nearby when suddenly an angel appeared, shining with the glory of the Lord! “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.”

Then the sky was filled with angels, praising God and singing, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” The shepherds hurried to Bethlehem and found the baby Jesus, just as the angel had said. How their hearts must have sung!

Wise men from far away also came, following a special star, and they worshipped the little King and brought Him gifts. Jesus was born — God had come to earth as a baby, to be the Saviour of the world. That is why we celebrate Christmas!
